Mary Ewell

Climate Activist and Blogger - Locally Dressed

Track Leader- Clean Energy

Mary Ewell relocated to the Monadnock Region, New Hampshire in 2017 after a career as a physics professor at George Mason University.  With a passion for the sciences, she turned her attention to combating the climate crisis.  After joining the Monadnock Sustainability Network, she led programs for its active arm, the Monadnock Energy Hub. As program coordinator, she connected with local climate activists and nonprofits in the region through outreach and events. Stepping down in 2020, she was asked almost immediately to help with the first remote Radically Rural. During the summit, she heard Rebecca Burgess speak about Fibersheds and her next project was born. She now is writing a blog, locally dressed.com, and readying herself to recreate the Fibershed challenge to wear only locally grown, produced, and created clothing for one year. Her hope, to create space for conversations around local fiber and place-making in her rural part of the state.
